So I am what you would call a Bass rookie. Despite living in WNY for the past 8 years I never went after the bass much. Just at a few lakes from shore when I took the kids to catch Crappie.

I am getting ready to invest in gear, I will be fishing a lot from shore.

I am going to test some rigs up @ Deer Creek and see if I can catch any.

What would you feel would be the better times of day to attack them?

Early morning is good for too water baits. During the day use spinner baits and Texas rigs around the submerged cover.

A plain old 3" curly tail grub in pumpkinseed or green pumpkin was always effective there for me. I also used to catch a ton on just a plain old Panther Martin inline spinner with a gold blade. A small wacky rigged stick worm is hard to beat as well. Tubes and really anything that imitates crayfish tend to catch them as well.

Gstott knows what's up man those fish munch on the crawdads (which don't get very big in deer creek these days) I prefer 1/4 ounce strike king jigs with Yamamoto double tail grubs as a trailer. Just slowly crawl it across the rocks.
