[left]I just recently moved into the area and am getting into fishing more and getting the kids into it. I am wondering if there are any good catfishing spots around here. I think the kids would get a kick out of it. Can anyone give me some advice on where to go and what to use? Thank you.

You will get lots of good replies from other members. From Meridian, your shortest jaunt may be to Swan Falls Dam area (Snake River south of Kuna) or The Boise river section near Parma Idaho or around CJ strike (Snake river near Mountain Home)

All of these are around a 45 minute to 1 hr drive from meridian.

Last year, my nephew caught a huge Catfish out of Settlers pond (city park on the corner of Ustick and Meridian road) Not sure if thewy are still in there or not. My guess is you are going to get a lot more ideas and places that are even closer.

Good luck!

[left]Thanks for the quick reply. I fished for catfish a few times as a kid in Texas and have always wanted to try again!

and if you are willing to drive, head to Brownlee.
The snake below Swan Falls is a good bet.

Every once in a while they stock the small local ponds with regular sized catfish and sometimes large brood stock from the hatchery.

Eagle and McMillan has a pond but there may not be any left, just trout, sunfish, bass.
Eagle Island is supposed to have some, I've only caught bass, trout, sunfish, and carp. Really nice if you have the parks pass on your car to get in free.
ParkCenter Pond in Boise has some.
Lake Lowell has Catfish, and they were catching them pretty well off the Nampa dam a few nights ago after dark.

I also second Swan Falls, Brownlee, CJ Strike.

lake lowell is your best bet right now tons of channel cats in there also the whole snake river form strike to hells canyon most will swear by cut bait such as trout and carp but i do best with fresh chicken liver and worms
