Full Version: Trailer brake bleeding problem

I've been busy bleeding my trailer's surge brakes, but have been unsuccessful. I've tried it manually where you pump the Tongue to actuate the master cylinder while cracking the wheel cylinder open...no brake fluid.

I went and bought a brake bleeding tool...still no brake fluid to the wheel cylinders.

Prior to all of this, I tore the whole system apart last night and blew out all the lines and orifices and everything is clear. What could be the issue(s)?

I'll tell you, I don't even use the boat anymore and it costs me money!

I haven't bled trailer brakes, but have bled brakes in the past. Its going to be a huge pain to get all the air pockets out and fill the brake lines and cylinders. Make sure you have pressure on the Tongue when you open up the drain on you cylinders. That should force air out. I would guess its going to take quite a while to accomplish.

Yeah that's what I've been doing. I fought this same issue two years ago, but I can't remember what I did to remedy it.

Park the boat on an incline and gravity bleed. Or just jack the Tongue up a bit. Fill res and open both ports. Works like a champ once fluid is moving then use the push pull method on the receiver. I just did mine last month new brakes and rotors plus a surge receiver. Mine old one blew out. If you need help let me know I am in Layton.
