Hello all. My wife, gk's and I went to Cascade for the weekend. Fishing was slow for us. 0 fish for 4 hours (one person) the first morning (started pretty late in the morning). 5 fish for 2 hours (2 people) the first evening. 18 fish for 3 hours (2 people) the second morning. 10 fish for 3 hours (2 people) the second evening. (Fish = perch)
Compared to most the people I talked to who were targeting perch we did pretty well. The fish we did catch were very healthy and thick (very meaty fillets for the size of fish). They were definitely hanging right on the bottom and eating snails and clams/mussels out of the sand. I tried from the south end to the little island south of SL, to the west side over by the church camp. All our fish were caught south of the dam.
Don't know if this report will be helpful to anyone or not. Good luck all. Must be time to hit the high mountain lakes.

I spend about an hour or so walking the shoreline, and all it can say is HOLY smokes, hundreds upon thousands of perch fry. I stopped in one spot and watch swarms upon swarms of perch fry swimming by. and not just in that spot but in many other spots that I stopped at. The bigger fish will have lots to feed upon later.
just some more useless info. [

Oh, yeah, you got the useless right. [
] Errr, I mean yeah, a lot of fry everywhere. [angelic]
At one point I was running from the island towards the church camp and the water around the boat looked like it was raining. Then I realized that the boat was spooking baby fish and they were stirring up the top of water making it look like rain for about 15-25 feet around the boat as it went through. I stopped and the whole water column from about 5 feet down to 22 feet was solid green on my sonar with bait size fish. It was like that for about 1/2 a mile as I was running from point to point. No shortage of small ones for sure!

I was at Cascade June 15-20 and my wife and I camped at the Poison Creek campground. I didn't have my boat and I had to use a kick boat loaned to me by my brother who felt sorry for me.
I fished from the kick boat and I stayed near the Poison Creek area. I never went more than 200 yards offshore where I found the depth to be 13-20 feet.
I didn't do all that well but I caught fish each time I went out. I used a small minnow type jig on a 1/16 oz. head tipped with a piece of worm with a dropper down to a 3/8 oz. weight. I just moved around slowly and dragged the lure along the bottom. The perch I caught were in the 9 to 14.5 inch range. I caught four that were right at the 14.5 inch length. They were in great shape and produced some great fillets. I think I kept about 15 perch on the trip and I released a few that were smaller.
I caught three rainbows using the same method. The largest RBT was about 23 inches and I guess it weighed about three and half pounds. The other trout were smaller. I caught most of the fish in water that was around 14 to 18 feet deep.
My wife and I really enjoyed the trip and we particularly appreciated the great lady who is the campground host at the Poison Creek state park. We were in space #244 which allowed direct access to the water just a short 50 feet from our camper.
I'm looking forward to a return visit this winter when (and if) the ice conditions are good and several of my friends will be along for the fun. You guys with easy access to this wonderful lake are lucky to have such a tremendous fishery close at hand.
Matt.....Sorry we didn't get to meet up there. Maybe we can get together on our winter trip.
