I am headed to IF for the 4th-9th I have heard below the falls can be good for Browns on a fly rod is this the case? Where is good to go fish for a couple hours wading closish to town? I used to fish Henry's fork, south fork, Teton with drift boat but don't have that luxury now. Any help would be awesome

I haven't really fly fished it and I don't know how much wading you will be able to do, but there are a couple of interesting places really close.

I've fished upstream from the Sunnyside bridge, between it and the check on the west side of the river. The Shelley pond, which has a little wading where the pond touches the river.

You also have below the Gem Lake dam, and below the main falls off the green belt, but I don't know if you can find safe places to wade.

This time of year there really isn't many safe places to wade fish the snake from the confluence down to Shelly. Bank fish it. And yes the area through town has some hogs in it but this weekend you will be fighting people enough to make flyfishing pretty rough. A place that might be worth checking out is above town on the westside above the rail road bridge up stream from Freeman Park.

Oh no I wouldn't even think to touch that river below Theron falls until Monday. What are fish hitting right now for flys? I know this crazy smer has stuff way ahead of time.

Unless you see them actively feeding.....streamers.

Your info came from people fishing the spawners. The browns won't be there until Oct and the rainbows in the spring. The rest of the year those outflows and falls are pretty quiet unless you are fishing at night.
