I did not exactly plan on going fishing yesterday morning with the weather looking the way that it was but I woke up at 3 am and finally got my lazy butt up at 4 am. I made coffee, walked outside and saw that the wind was blowing at a pretty good clip, so I went back in the house and turned on the TV weather. It didn't look good! At 5:15 I decided the heck with it I was going fishing anyway! I didn't have anything else to do. I put in a HB and I started out riding around just looking at different areas. I finally caught a small fish on a spinner bait over the top of a grass flat. I was still riding around looking when I idled across this long point and saw the graph light up with bait fish, ... then I saw some other fish underneath. I started throwing a crank bait and immediately caught three short fish. I was a bit disappointed in that but then I switched over and picked up a shakeyhead and that was the thing! I caught 20 fish there total. Four over 5# with the largest a 5.11. Six over 4# and one was a 4.2 Smallmouth bonus. Three other fish were over 3#. And then of course there is always the one that got away story! I felt a little tap on the shakey and set the hook, the rod bowed up and just sat there almost like I was hung up but then all of a sudden it started moving off! I made about three or four turns on the reel handle, felt the drag slip and then it just came off? It could have been the Locke Ness Monster I don't know what it was but it sure felt big! It was the best outing for me in a long time of just good quality fish. The fish were in a 10 / 18 fow that fell off into the river channel. Anyway, I was glad that I woke up and endured the wind and the multiple rain showers.
