The gizzard shad are stacked up and are schooling. Water temps are cracking 80 degrees.

Figure the wiper and walleye are just swimming around with their mouths open when the water is cooler. Tough catchin' right now, but did manage a couple 3.8 lb and 5 lb wipers today.

I recall one day pulling a crankbait with shad that thick. If I swept the rod briskly, I'd foul-hook a fingerling shad most of the time. They were schooled so dense they couldn't get out of the way, probably.

Note: you cannot possess shad at Willard, dead or alive, nor use them for bait. If you hook one, release it immediately.
