Looking to hit Deer Creek early in the morning in search of walleye and then transition to smallies as the sun comes overhead.

Will be armed with drop shots, senkos and cranks for the smallies. But I'm a little bit in the dark on the best walleye tactics for DC.

Anyone got any tips? I'll probably start out jigging a night crawler on any flats I can find in the 10-20 foot range.

Thanks in advance.

Try using jigs like you would for smallmouth. There are walleye in kinda shallow, just look for weeds. I caught a 21 inch walleye in 8 ft of water yesterday from my float tube. It must have been looking for bait fish in the weeds is what I am guessing. The hit was an aggressive strike.

Thanks! I figure I might find 'em in shallow early in the morning.

Did you happen to notice if the DNR was out there with their steam cleaners for quagga decon or what time they showed up?

I wasnt near a boat ramp when I launched the tube. But on mornings when I have they are usually there when boats are coming off the lake.

We ended up doing alright. Got three smallies, one on a SR-5 crawdad shad rap, one on a wacky rigged senko and one on a berkley gulp leech on a drop shot.

Around 11 we started trolling for trout using walleye gear and my cousin picked up a monster 15-20 lb carp.

Momma nature chased us off around 1.
