A buddy and I fished Mammoth today from our tubes using fly tackle. We put in about 9:45 and fished until about 3:00. We got chased off the water about 12:30 for about 15 minutes for a brief fireworks and hail display. We fished the upper 2/3 of the reservoir and all in all had a good day. The Water temperature was 63 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 12'. The reservoir level is 9,032' (92% full) and dropping slowly. There were a few shore anglers but no on else on the water. The fish were scattered throughout the water column with some on the bottom, some 18' - 20' down, and some feeding on the surface. Most of the fish that we caught were in 15' - 25' of water. We caught all tiger trout from 9" - 19" long. We were using fast sinking lines with size 4-8 bead head crystal buggers in green/black, copper/black, and tan/green/pearl. Some of the fish were hooked while just paddling and some were hooked while stripping the line up from the bottom. It was a good first trip with a few more to come.[]
