Has anyone fished Smith and Morehouse recently? This isn't really a fishing trip as I'm not bringing my toon but a family camping trip with my 2 yr old girl and sister's 2 yr old boy. I'm hoping to at least get a few hours of fishing from shore and was going to try the inlet area. I'm taking my fly rod and spin gear and figure I'll try both. Thanks

I was up there last Sunday, and we caught more than we could keep track of. Jake's in silver and gold did well on the spin gear, but nymphing got the most fish. We used prince nymphs and some hare's ear nymphs for the grayling by floating the line from the river mouth to the lake and doing a very slow strip back up stream. We used some dry flies in the late evening with some success. Caught a few good size graylings and a ton of larger rainbow trout.
Good luck!

Thanks. That is super helpful. Were you wading out right at the inlet?

Yep, water is pretty warm. Think it was right around 70 at the surface.

That sounds great. Thanks again.

Nice I haven't been up there for years. I am thinking it might be a good spot to head back to in a week or so.

I'll let you know how it goes. I wish I was taking the toon but the kids stuff takes up a lot of room in the car.

I have decided when we go camping the toon stays home and I put a tube in the car or trailer instead. Takes up less space and can get me where I want.

Made up Sat. morning and while waiting for others to arrive through a silver kastmaster from the rocks by the dam and caught my first Grayling. Finally got a camping spot around 1 as it was really busy on the water and campgrounds. Hit the river inlet and caught a few small rainbows in the evening but not nearly as many as a few other guys fly fishing there as well. They were killing it with dry flys. Not sure which pattern but something different than me. Hit the same spot early in the morning and same thing for me. I could see the fish following my fly as I stripped it back but very few takers. Oh well, fun camping with the kids anyway.

Sounds like it was still better than any day at work or dealing with the heat in the valley.
