My family has a timeshare at snowbird up in little cottonwood canyon over the summer. I will be up there for a few days here towards the end of this month and would like to try fishing somewhere up there. Does anyone have and suggestions or ideas of where to go that wouldn't be too far? When I was a kid, we used to go down to Nebo creek whenever we were up there, but that drive will be too far this time.
My dad says he has caught fish out of the little cottonwood stream, but its generally difficult and not a very good place. I am not familiar with the area and would love any tips.

Little cottonwood creek right at the resort is a great place to fish. Small flies work best. You can sight fish for them and they will eat almost anything.. I used to fish the steam on breaks when i worked there. Lots of small rainbows with a few larger one in the big holes.

Any particular type of small flies? Best techniques? I've never used flies except for very limited attempts (and failures) at fly fishing over the past couple of months.

I don't think it is a artificial lure only stream but check the regs. I have fished a lot of small streams like this and you don't have to fly fish.
If you don't fly fish, just walk up the stream with a short spinning rod and use a #10 J hook with a 3 or 4 inch worm and maybe a split shot sinker about 6 inches above the bait. Then flip it into the likely looking holes and eddies behind rocks and let it drift naturally. You'll get them.

that stream really small, but as the other poster said, flies on top will produce. my experience is the fish are very small and mostly feral wild bows and brooks, with a few browns down lower. the bushes and rocks will beat you up. if i was you, i'd get a map and hike into one of the local lakes and use a fly and bubble if you dont know how to fly fish. I like little renegades and griffiths gnats up there; good luck.
