I will be fishing Yuba this weekend but I don't have a boat and didn't know if there were any good places to shore fish over by the painted rock camp grounds? I don't need your secret spots just any kind of help to catch a northern pike or any fish except a carp! lol

Thanks!

The lake is so low right now my "spots" are 10' out of the water anyway.

Lots of carp. Northerns are few and far between from what I've heard.

In addition to the Northerns and Carp, there used to be Perch, Walleye, and Channel cats. From shore, I would catch a few carp during the day to use for bait.

Fillet the carp and scale them. Leave the skin on and shave the meat side down to about 1/4 inch in thickness. Remove the rib cage also. Depending on the size of the fillet, you should have a strip of meat and skin about 2-3 inches wide and about 12 inches long. Start at the gill end of the fillet and cut triangular pieces that are about 2 inches wide at one end and taper to a point on the other.

I use a slip rig or a rig with no weight. If you are using a weight, use the lightest possible. I use a #2 or 1 circle hook. Take your carp strip and hook through the wide end, about 1/8th of an inch from the edge. Hook again about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch down the strip from where the hook was first placed. The tapered strip will flap and wave in the water, helping to attract.

There may not be many Channels left, but that strip of carp will attract any left. Have fun and good fishing. Make sure you post a report.
We wrestled a few Northerns at Eagle View campground a few weeks back using 1-2oz sinkers in front of a swivel......3-4 foot flourocarbon (20-50lb) leader tied to a floating jig head . tipped with Anchovies ( sell them at Sportsmans)

the carp kept us entertained as well. probably landed 40+ in 2 nights
