Hey everyone!
I'm heading to lake powell for 8 days leaving this Sunday. We are staying on a houseboat leaving from the Wahweap marina. I'll be bringing my bass boat along for the first time and was hoping I could get some information on where some good places to fish would be in that area? I know it's a pretty big place and I'd like to not have to travel super far to do some fishing since I'm still new to owning and operating a boat. Any tips on what to expect or places to fish would be appreciated! I've been checking Waynes words frequently and a lot of the reports are from the same area that I'll be staying. I'm guess the fishing is probably good everywhere on the lake but if I could narrow down some options that would be great. Thanks in advance!

I would like to know as well.I just got back from page last weekend and tried banking with no luck and hot...FWIW I see people fishing on boat's close to the wall's towards the dam.I think a good finder would be of great help for finding fish.I overheard some fisherman while having breakfast and chatted for a bit. They talked about staying in the flat's around the waheep area. The guy at stik's sporting good's has some idea's on where to go...

Good luck!

Take lots of jerk baits and top water of all kinds, look for the boils along the main channel and in the backs or along the walls in the morning and afternoons..

Use 17 and up on line, fishing has been hot when you find them..

Are you targeting any specific type of fish?

I've been down a few times this summer and had some decent luck. As already mentioned, your best bet for stripers is finding the boils early in the morning but you sometimes have to be sneaky and fast. In the evenings, go to the dam and fish along the walls right near the silver barriers (I actually tie the boat to them) with anchovies. Hasn't been as hot a spot as in recent years, but you should still land some fish.

Right across from wahweap marina is a little bay that I have caught lots of smallmouth in, although most of them aren't very big. Fish right near the rocks that stick out towards the mouth of the cove. There are lots of smallmouth all through there. Also had good luck for smallmouth fishing around lone rock, right next to the rock.

If you are at the marina, squish a small piece of bread on a hook, drop it just out of sight, and you will land catfish all day long.

Do you know where on the Lake you are going to be parking the houseboat?

Yeah I've been checking waynes words multiple times a day actually [Smile] Last time we were there i think we were pretty much a straight shot across from the marina I guess towards lone rock? I'll be targeting mainly bass, stripers and then probably just bait fish at night for stripers and catfish. I'll be sure to get some pictures if I catch anything of note and post it here! Thanks for the help everyone! Is there anything to look out for weather wise besides the obvious stormy skies? I know its a big lake and I want to avoid scary situations since I'm new to boating.

well since you're there why not zip across and fish all the structure all of the way in the back of bullfrog bay? there is some great fishing near the cut towards the back end of the bay... by "cut" i mean the canyon that looks like it cuts a channel from the bay to the main lake. if you do go that route and cut through the marina be aware of the no wake zone, every time we have gone we have seen idiots haul ass through there only to get chased down by the rangers. if the wind kicks up and you are dead set on fishing, fish close to some where you can beach your boat, that way you dont get caught in a bad situation... have fun and take pics!
