Spent the early morning out on the south fork of the ogden river trying my luck. River is still clear and easily wade-able. I spent about an hour with my fly-rod with no luck, so I switched over to my old standby of salmon eggs and managed to pull out a 13 inch brown trout from a hole I had floated at least 2 flies and 3 different nymphs by... guess I was doing something wrong, or he didn't care for what I was offering.

I had never fished at pineview before, so on the way home I figured I would throw a couple of casts out from shore just to see what would happen. Lost a trout on a lil Jakes spinner, and landed two bluegill on salmon eggs and powerbait. Was able to cross off a new location, and a new species of fish from my list, so it turned out to be a fairly productive stop. (also should tell you how much I fish lakes....... I generally stick to rivers)

I have a buddy who is dying to get up to Pineview to try for muskies... only problem is we don't have a boat. Anyone know any good places we might try from shore?

I've hooked tiger muskie at two places at Pineview, and both are near free access points. One is on the east side, just around the bend north of Huntsville. If the water is up and the bay is full, wade out and fish the weedy areas. If the water is so low that the bay at Spring Creek is down to the sand, drive all the way around to the west side, where you can park at the Forest Service trailhead just south of the marina. The small bay is Rattlesnake Creek and musky cruise the edges there quite often.

I've had them hit both minnow swim baits and spinnerbaits. Do use a wire leader! Both of the ones I had on bit through my mono. Buh-BYE!

Pineview has all kinds of free and accessible shoreline to varying water depths. You caught Gills so start there as TM will be where bait fish are. Now as RR stated a leader wire or florocarbon is recommended. But the key is the line as it's not bite offs it's line break offs that is the issue. We find a variety of lures floating every year with leaders still attached and attached to mono line. Here's a read for you
