I am going to fish lake for the first time and I am looking for any tips. I am wanting to get the kids onto a bunch a perch then hopefully move onto something a little bigger. We will have a small boat the whole trip and a pontoon boat for one day. Any ideas for bait or lures is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Perch are easy. Curly tail or tube jigs tipped with a worm will catch all the perch you want. Look for structure like weeds and plants. Try the weed line. Drop shorting works well too. Many doubles that way.

We found the most perch anchoring on the far side of the lake (away from the marinas) in 30-40 feet of water, dropping any sort of jig to the bottom, and reeling it up one turn.
Two jigs often meant two fish.
We also caught several rainbows mixed in with the perch.
For bigger stuff, use bigger jigs in 60-100 Feet of water in similar fashion.
Trolling for bows with dodgers and worms or flies also worked very well. The splakes and Macs were down about 30' and liked rapallas.

Perch eyes and cut bait made from little perch make great perch bait. Keep whole small perch, kill them and use them as bait for lakers in the deep areas.

Thanks for the tip. I have heard people using small chubs but I have never heard of people using small perch.
Thanks,

Perch work as bait for many species.
