I'm going to be in the St. George area for a few days next week, and I was thinking at trying my hand at bass fishing while down there.

From the research I've done, it looks like Sand Hollow>Quail Creek right now. Does that sound accurate to those in the know?

I've never targeted bass in my life and will be using primarily soft plastics on Texas, Carolina, and dropshot rigs. I'm shore bound. Any tips?

I would also like to get some bluegills if possible. Any tips for Sand Hollow OR Quail Creek much appreciated.

I say Sand Hollow only because there are more fish. You have the opportunity for get some bluegill and crappie as well. There are many bank anglers but see most of them from the parking lot accessible areas such along the dams and the rock on the north end, again by the dam.

Quail is also a great place but it seems I do really well there or really bad so I usually go to SH for the numbers.

Baits - I think sticking with Texas rigged plastics will be good. Shakey head rigs, spinnerbaits will work. If you get there early then try top water early in the morning.

I fish from a boat so no an expert on bank fishing.

I agree with what hockeyman said. I will also add quail is much harder to fish from the shore. Sand hollow is easy access on the West and North dams. I used to fish it from shore and you can do well. Just keep moving and trying new spots. There are lots of fish holding around those rocks if you work for them. I always had luck using lizards in watermelon color.

Welp, I think I'm hooked on this bass fishing thing.

Seeing as how I don't find myself in southern Utah very often, (I live and work in the Provo area), I'm now on the hunt for some good, closer LMB waters.

I understand there are some limited numbers of LMB in Utah Lake, and possible Deer Creek? I have no boat or tube, so I'm strictly a bank tangler right now. What is my best bet for consistent LMB fishing locally?

Oh no. You now have the sickness. The sickness infected me about 25 years ago and after going through many arsenals of rods, reels, lures and a couple of boats I am no closer to a cure. The more I go the more I want to go. Others I know have also been infected...not pretty.

For largemouth Ut Lake in spring or fall around the marinas. Deer Creek for smallies is fun. Really not too sure where to go from sore. I always fish from a boat.

The lower Provo River before it dumps into Utah Lake can be his too. Fish along three bike path.

Any where you can get to cover and structure at this time of year. With no boat or tube try wading. This works well. Deer creek, joedanelle, starvation, hyrum, pineview, rockport, as well as many others all have bass in them. Deer creek has both large and smallmouth.
