Wondering if they have a dock you can park your boat at & go inside the dam's visitor center?

Last time we boated down to the damn I didn't see one, but they also had a large section closed of as they had divers in the water.
Ive only been into the visitor center once and that was like 18 years ago when I was 5 or so, Would like to site-see our way down the gorge to the damn and go inside if possible?

There is a good sized courtesy dock at the visitor center so people can use the restrooms, check out the visitor center and picnic. Not sure if there is a "parking time limit" but I don't think too many obey it if there is one.

Thanks! I sen one dock just below the damn at whatever that boat launch is called right (atleast I think I seen a ramp) just wasn't sure if that was a yacht club deal or not

You're welcome. Just to be clear there is no ramp or launch at the dam. There is a large courtesy dock for public use and a smaller dock for the lake patrol (whatever they call it). These are right near the visitor center at the dam. The only nearby ramps are Cedar Springs (south shore) and Mustang (north shore) both about 1.25 miles up lake.

Trubbs,

Fishnate is right, there is a courtesy dock there for boaters to pull-up and access the Dam Visitor Center area. Just a heads-up, do to the high water levels on the Gorge right now, the gangway is partially submerged and you'll have to wade through some water (up to knees) to go from the dock to the shore. Unfortunately the gangway can't be adjusted higher when the lake is this high. Boaters are using it safely, just thought you should know your feet will get wet!

Good luck, Ryno

This reminds me that when we went to the visitors' center at Powell, they were very security conscious and made me leave my pocket knife at the entrance. You might want to leave all those weapons in the boat. [cool]

How far would one have to wade?
I've got a couple extra 2x12's at the house id put down to help the cause

The last time I was actually there on-site I would guess 20ft. I drive by there often and can still see it partially submerged but can't tell you exactly how far. There's a fishing pier attached to the same gangway, and it almost always has anglers on it too. So it's useable, just wet. Now that the reservoir is starting to drop (slowly) it'll become less of a wade.

I went to Hoover this year they had metal detectors. So yeah leave the knives in the boat.
