I fished Electric Lake today from 7:30 until 3:00 using fly tackle (as usual). I drove as far as I could past the boat ramp and launched there. I fished down as far as coal canyon using a fast sinking line and size 6-8 bead head soft hackles in black/green, tan/green/pearl, and tan/brown. I used bead head leeches in olive and Canada blood. I was trying to get a kokanee or two but no luck with that. I ended up catching 25% cutthroats and 75% tigers. The cutthroats were 13"-16" and the tigers were 11"- 17". There were some folks in three different boats that were trolling but they spent most of their time down near the dam. The reservoir level is 63% full and dropping. The water temperature was 61-63 degrees and visibility was about 7' in the water. It was a good day to be on the water but I might have to bring a respirator next time for all the smoke. [Wink]

Lots of smoke everywhere. Until we get a real good storm to blow it all out we shall all suffer indeed. Great report thanks for sharing.

I was up there about 10 to 2:45, wasn't fishing though
well sort of. I was catching minnows past the ramp a ways. And it was a smoky day for sure but better than down in Price.
Now I am kicking myself for not driving further down that road to see what is down there, I was unaware it went much further and had a possible launch area for small craft.
Did have a bit of wonderment though. I could see the DWR girl in her truck and the de con unit sitting unused while boats came in and came out.
I was thinking whats the point unless she already had checked who was there. But as they say none of my business was still nice to be out, and got some minnows to boot!
take care

Were you in a red suv?

The DWR is just checking the boats before they go on the lake to see where they have been. If they have been in a contaminated water then they would have to decontaminate it before letting them launch. I checked in with her and she asked where I had been in the last thirty days. The square on her form wasn't big enough to put down all the places I've been with my tube in the last thirty days.[laugh]

How did you do on the minnows? I didn't see many on the upper part of the lake but as I got closer to Coal Canyon there were a lot of them breaking the surface in close to shore. Every once in awhile the tiny splashes were interrupted by a large splash.[Wink]

I was in the white Silverado with a white shell on back,
Got about 100 shiners, Hoping to tempt the wipers at H.N. after the holiday.
May sneak in a trip to Lincoln Beach with some launch knowledge spots from TubeDude.
Hopefully the cats will munch on salted shiners T.D. said to just freeze them for cats but without thinking I salted them, oh well.
The minnows were harder to get by the ramp due to the sudden appearance of the moss,
I caught wiper fever awhile back and have been ignoring the other local waters for too long, I need to shake that fever off and re-learn our local ponds
Might run into you around here, I try to avoid weekends
but give in sometimes,
I will be in the white chevy, will be putting around in an ugly green PortaBote that says pond scum on the side
or a blue and white smoker craft tinny side console.
Is your tube tricked out? or plain jane?
Well hope to stop and say howdy sometime
Happy tugs

I know what you mean about the wipers. They are a great sport fish and mighty tasty too.

My tube is plain jane. Blue Fish Cat with a hummingbird fishing buddy, single rod, and flipper power.

I'm sure to run into you sooner or later, I avoid weekends as much as I can too.

Cheers![fishin]

Nothing wrong with keeping it simple, I have a fishing buddy on the plastic boat and I like its simplicity and basic functions.
I just asked that question so I will know who to watch for around here, blue Jane will be easy to spot.
Im excited for the Holiday to go by and temps to drop a bit
Hopefully those sporty wipers will wake up a little.
I think I am going to give em a shot during ice season just because.
Good luck

I'm all for it, Pat.

Between the three of us we ought to be able to fool a few wipers, trout, bluegill, largemouth, green sunfish, catfish, and of course a chub or two.

I'm sure the catfish at Willard Bay and Utah Lake would be happy to see you fishing somewhere else.[Wink]

[#0000FF]I'm down widdat.

Chubs? I heard from that erudite angler Gary Winterton that those was "suckers".

At any rate, I'll leave those to you. You seem to have such a natural affinity for chubs. I'll try to refine my approach to avoid them...and maybe the slimers. (Sorry. Couldn't resist)

Three pole assault sounds real good, Be nice to share some water with the pros, If the wipers and friends are willing should be a blast, Dang there goes the fever again just when I was getting better, I will have to do some recon after the last blast and report back, Of course Im not that good, But no slouch either, looking forward to the day when we get to go. Heck I may start early next week depending on the wind, just to check it out of course, Just made some of Pats hanger shots to try with those shiners
cooling down around mid week might have to wash some stuff.
Good fishing

If it is a decent day that I am free I may have to join you guys. [Wink] If not have fun![Smile]

Know what you mean about a nice day, I was planning to get in a practice day or two ahead of time, But just checked the weather, something about thunderstorms and a tin boat sounds downright electrifying lol.

Then the week after early bird holiday wake makers will invade, Its ok though fish aren't going anywhere, I can wait. prime time is close

Caught two Kokes trolling gold spinners. Both still silver. I ate one thinking it would taste like a red salmon. Nope. Tastes just like a tiger or cutt. All taste the same and have about the same color of meat.
