I've been watching the water level in Cascade on a pretty regular basis for about a year or so. I don't ever recall it dropping like it has been the last couple of weeks (dropping ~5-10% per week). We are now down to 55% of capacity. Does anyone know when they will stop letting irrigation water out and start holding back for next year? It is beginning to look like a very low water year for ice fishing if things keep going the way they are.

yea they will hold back and fill it almost too full once the irrigation shuts off, just like Lake Lowell, they fill it back up too the tree's after people's irrigation gets shut off, it will come back up about mid Oct. or maybe a little sooner, you been up there lately HnH?

No. Fishing at CJ has been to good for me to trek up that way. Now it is hunting season, so I don't see getting out to fish much until about late November now. How'd your bow hunt go?

I have only drove by there salmon fishing and would like to try an ice fishing trip, have been thinking about it for years. I know you two both consistently catch jumbos in there. Do either of you guys know a reputable ice fishing guide from that lake? Is there even a guide? I would imagine it is getting plenty of publicity since the records being talked about...

Judging from years past, the water level doesn't stop dropping until late Sept. Assuming this year will be similar, and considering the level it's currently at now, Cascade is gonna be WAY down come October. I sure hope we get a big white, snowy, wet winter.

I heard earlier this summer that the kayakers/rafters have some kind of deal going with the state to keep the flows high on the North fork for optimal whitewater conditions for the summer season. Hopefully the fishing in the reservoir doesn't suffer..

Thanks for the graph link. That was very informative and confirmed what I suspected.

It is my understanding that there is a guide there now but I don't know any details. You can search through last years posts and I'm sure you'll find it. OR...... I would be happy to take you out if you'd like to arrange something. I'm pretty sure I'll be cheaper than a licensed guide.......[Wink] j/k. No promises on getting into jumbos, tho. They can be elusive. And I'm not about to reveal my "secret spot".[Wink]

I did find out a little info last night. I did find a website about a guy who does it on the weekends when hes not teaching school. I talked to my wife about it and we are planning a trip. Id like to go before they do the hardwater classic. That is nice of you Neil to offer that, I would never want anyones secret spot just an idea on which end of the lake and just general info is plenty good. I think we are planning on going the end of January.
