Hello, I'm driving up to Springville/Mapleton area to visit the in laws for a few days. I'm from California so never fished your beautiful lakes. I will be there this coming Friday. I have done some research about where to float tube in Utah. The float tube is brand new so I'm not bringing any alien friends. Plus all of my tackle will be fresh and clean for Utah.
Just looking for any advice for the best Float tube experience in Utah. I know it will be Labor Day weekend, I expect heavy crowds. Looking for a semi-private lake. I'm set up for trout or bass. Would like to take just two trout home to the in laws to have dinner. I was thinking Strawberry early Friday morning. Then Utah lake Saturday to bass fish near Provo. I"m open to any other ideas or suggestion to make the most out of my trip. Thanks for you time.

Welcome. Strawberry is a great place. It will be swarming with people this weekend, but you might be able to somewhat beat the crowd Friday morning. Rainbow and Cutthroat fishing is top notch. Any of your usual trout gear should get the job done. You can scroll through the last few pages of posts and find a slew of Strawberry posts. Lots of crawdads there, too. You can bring some back to boil up with your trout.

If you want to try to get further away from the crowds, there are a few small lakes up near Fairview, it wouldn't be too far of a drive for you to get to Huntington (Mammoth), or Electric lake. Both offer decent trout fishing, and a little more privacy.

Utah Lake is my favorite spot, but I never target bass. I've heard you can do well around the rocks in the marinas. If you're not getting any love from the bass, you can always catch a carp or a white bass, cut it into pieces and chase after some channel catfish. They are very plentiful and can get pretty large.

Utah is beautiful and has a wide range of landscapes. You should enjoy yourself.

Good luck! Let us know how you do.

Awesome, yeah I have no problem driving to Huntington (Mammoth). Especially to catch a Tiger. I think that will be my trip for Sunday. Also great tip on the White bass/carp for Utah lake. I used to catch Carp in Lake Mead all the time so that should be no problem. I love to fight the catfish as well. Thanks again, haven't been this excited in a long time to fish. I will let you know how I did.

A transplanted Californian (by way of the USAF) myself. I have never had or used a Tube, and the suggestions you have already gotten are quite probably some of the best there are. There may possibly be a bit fewer than normal boats on the water at Utah Lake. Water level is very low, not a problem for tubers. I was just on UL last Friday in my 14' Lund and there were a few pucker factor moments getting out of the State Park Marina at Provo. Even less water at the north end American Fork, and from all recent reports, Lincoln Beach on the south end should be just about a mud puddle by now. For you in a tube, water level shouldn't be an issue. But wherever you get your feet wet this weekend, biggest issue may be the inconsiderate power squadron people. The second biggest may be wind..........It don't take high winds to create problems here this time of year with most of the lakes at low level.
Have fun, be safe. [fishin]
