Hit the water around 7:30 am, opted not to go out too early and chase boils like I have the last few weeks. I have a couple of spots that have been producing a lot of large bait and good sized stripers so I wanted to spend some time on them.
Bait was easy to come by, large bait at that! In a couple of throws had about 100 shad (threadfin and Gizzard) almost all 5 inches or larger. Fished spot number 1 and it was pretty slow. graphed a ton of fish but they just were not interested so i moved on after about 2 hours and 4 fish in the 3# range.
Spot 2 was completely different, bait would hit the bottom (45 ft) and immediately hook up. Unfortunately for me I wasnt paying attention to one of my fishing rods and it is now at the bottom of the lake. I was baiting one, when the second one got a major hit. Hard enough that it bounced the rod holder clean off my pontoon rail....these things fit pretty tight too. I almost grabbed it before it went in but i was too slow. Chose not to go in after it, light breeze and i didnt have a life vest on. Too risky for $100 rod....and a $25 rod holder that it was still secured in LOL.
I stayed in this area for nearly 3 hours, was pulling in SMB one after another in an area about 35 - 40 ft down, all nice sized. Stipers would come and go but in the end netted about 40 fish on the day. I have a couple of pics ill post up later. Sorry guys i chose not to get specific about the areas yet, want to see what all i can get out of them before they get too much attention.
