has anyone been out to brownlee lately? I've heard from a few second hand reports that it is still fishing well, but thought I'd ask. My dad and I are headed out Friday.

We had a bass tourney there on Saturday, out of Woodhead. What fish are you looking for?

Probably will fish for bass to start, then look for some crappie to bring back with us.
Thanks for the reply

Well you can cast to nearly any shoreline and catch 9"-11" bass all day long. And they are not particular about what you throw. Literally can catch them until your thumbs are sore from lipping them. The bigger bass are far and few between.
Crappie are stacked on the bluffs. So thick a transducer will read them as the bottom. Not certain how they are biting, but they are in massive schools.

Sounds very similar to what I experienced in June. couldnt keep the small bass away. Well, im at least hoping the size of the crappie has improved since spring.

+1
You can also find the crappie right in the boat ramp bay at Woodhead. Just idle around watching your sonar and you'll see the schools. I haven't seen much for size on the crappie though...

Same thing when I was there in April.

I was able to find pockets of nicer crappie in the spring, but had to pick through smaller fish that you mentioned. Hoping I can find a few of the bigger ones again, but should be a nice day anyway! Thanks for the info, everyone!

Fished today, the small bass were everywhere as advertised. Found a nice school of bigger crappie, 10 inches or so, and caught them before the sun hit the water. Once the sun hit the water, they quit. They bit very light, and I have to say I'd never caught crappie so deep. I marked the schools at 50-60 feet right on the bottom, not suspended , and I assumed they were perch until we started catching them. They were deep enough to where bringing them to the surface resulted in bulging eyes, and less than lively fish. Definitely a unique crappie experience for me.
After the fish quit biting in the spot we first found the schools we moved up the reservoir. Fished some areas we usually have success and marked fish, deep again, and didn't have much luck. Messed around with the bass for a while, and called it a day around 2. I must have read over your detail regarding crappie schools on the "bluffs", if you don't mind helping me out, can you tell me where and/or what the bluffs are?
Thanks again for the info

Yeah you bet...when I said bluffs it wasn't just a singular area. I was mainly referring to any of the steep rock drop offs. Something that appears like a cliff, rock wall, or shear bluff. These areas were holding lots of crappie and in much shallower water than you were describing. Went across several large schools that were 9-12' down sitting over 30' of water. Hope that helps some.

Okay, thank you, makes sense, I thought you were referring to a specific area. We fished a lot of the drop offs Off of cliffs and didn't see a whole lot on the screen. Talked to one group said the crappie also had gone deep, not sure what that's about.
