Full Version: A Surprise From Lamont

I've been working on figuring out some new bass waters since the Twin Lakes Canal Company closed access to its waters. I was giving Lamont a try the other day, and while I did finally hook into a nice sized bass there (which Sadly threw the hook) the real surprise came shortly after.

The water is very high for this time of year so I was pitching a wacky worm to flooded brush when I hooked into this guy.

I was rather surprised to have caught him since I've never heard of cutthroat being in Lamont and see no mention of them on the stocking records. The only thing I can think of is that it came downstream from a small creek up in the drainage, went through Johnson, down the spillway and into Lamont. Kind of a fun fluke catch.

Cool. I was hopping to see a muskie pic though to be honest.. pretty irritated at twin lakes canal for throwing a fit over the dam denial though..

I'll admit a musky would have been more exciting. I still think I would have been less surprised by it though seeing as I know there are still a few in there. I can't find any record of cutties ever being planted in there. It must have been a wild fish washed down from further up in the watershed at some point.

It seems like every time that canal company gets denied on this project they do something spiteful.

Still a cool fish non the less.there is 3 creeks that dump into lamont one big main one. And the chances of cutts being in one of them is there.. which is cool to.see one caught but I hope F&G don't decide it's a possibility to have a cutt come back there and they kill it off to try and bring them back..

I actually caught it right where the creek comes in. For some reason I figured that was just coming down from Johnson above, but looking at Google Earth, I can see it skirts around the side of Johnson.

I would hope they wouldn't kill it off. There aren't many places left to chase bass in my tube anymore.
