The ice is about a foot thick, but I don't know if there are any fish in that crazy lake. This time we fished right by the runoff or dam or whatever it's called. Last Saturday we fished out from the boat ramp and also got skunked. One guy there told us that Hyrum has been slow this year. I hope you folks have better luck.

What time of day are you fishing? The catching seemed to excellent Friday morning and then slowed as noon approached.

I also went to Hyrum today. I did not get there until about 2:30 and stayed untill about 5:30. I started about a block East of the spillway and in about 30 ft of water. I did not catch anything so I moved closer to the spillway into a hole someone else had drilled. I fished there awhile and had one bite but missed it. Then I moved closer to the shore into about 20 ft of water. I did not catch anything there so I drilled another hole in closer to the shore in about 10 ft of water. While I was adjusting my strike indicator I had a hit and missed it. I rebaited and had a couple of more bumbs then I had a good hit a got about a 14" rainbow. I stayed about 10 more min. and headed out.

The action was less than fast. I think part of it for me was finding the fish. I do not have a fish finder so I have to do it by the gut fill method. I talked to the guys at Custom Sports in Hyde Park on friday and they told me that one of there customers had been out there and used perch minnows from a rainbow the had caught and could not get them to the bottom before they had a fish on. They were fishing in about 9 ft of water.

So you may want to try in a little closer to shore. I was using a wax worm on a white scud and a white crappie jig tipped with a meal worm. I am sure that all of my hits were on the wax worm.

I saw a couple of other fish caught. One guy had caught a bow on a blue looking ice fly.

I had a little bit of luck yesterday. I caught 6 rainbows, missing 5 other fish that were on for a brief second, and then I probably had 5-10 other hits. Having a fish finder is really nice though. I fished in 12' at the deepest, and 6' at the least. I caught fish in all of those areas. I was fishing right up next to big toe. The people around us were catching fish about as often as we were, but it definately was slow. I stayed from about 9 to 1. The majority of the fish were caught between 10:30 and 11:30. All were on the bottom.

Hi kicknbass, Thanks for the report. What were the bows hitten on? I know that the shallows seen to be the ticket for the rainbows. Did anyone around you get any perch?

I was using a really small ice fly with a white and gray tail with silver sparkles on it, tipped with a giant meal worm. They were also hitting a crappie jig with red on the top and a white tail, also tipped with a wax worm. I heard one guy yelling that he had caught a perch, but he said it was maybe five inches. Other than that, no one else seemed to be getting any at all.
