Some friends of mine and I hit Mammoth today about 8:30 and fished from our tubes/toons until about 2:30. We were all using fly gear with both medium and fast sinking lines with sizes 4-8 crystal buggers, leeches, and soft hackles in various colors. The water temperature was 53-54 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 8' because of the algae. We all managed to pick up a fair number of tigers along with a 17" and a 19" cutthroat. There were five other folks on pontoons and a couple of boats. It looked like everyone was catching fish.
The reservoir level is at 59% full and dropping slowly. Thats about 2' below the end of the boat ramp but you can still launch a small boat with no problems.
We got an added bonus with a chance to see a bull and cow moose come down and get in the lake and swim across.
It was a great day to be on the water.[
