Matched with a Milwaukee fuel, I love it. No gas or smell, very quiet, I don't break a sweat from cranking, and with the six inch auger I have, i can drill holes all day on just one of the two batteries.

[#800000]I have a friend that has one and it works great. However, I wanted the best, so I went with a NILS auger which is made to just put into the drill and go. The Clam system requires some dismantling of the chuck on your drill. And anybody that has ever drilled holes in ice with a NILS will tell you there isn't another auger bit in the world that will cut easier.[/#800000]
[#800000]
[/#800000]
[#800000]And if the drill fails for any reason, the NILS comes with a handle that you can attach and still keep on drilling with ease. The Clam doesn't offer that option.[/#800000]

"The Clam doesn't offer that option. "
Not so. One thumb screw to take the auger off, put handle on, tighten the same thumb screw, and its a go.
Its nice to have the direct attachment, and I thought of making one, but the ergonomics of the clam can't be beat. And there is no risk of the chuck coming loose and the auger falling in. It's happened to many people, hence safety attachments for direct drill attachment.

Do you have a link for the Nils attachment (I already own two Nils augers, so I only need the converter attachment)?

[#800000]Sorry, but the NILS auger for the electric drill is a completely different auger that is built specifically to attach to a drill. There is no attachment/conversion kit that will allow a regular NILS auger to be used in this manner. The drill specific auger has the protection plate welded on to prevent loss down the hole. I'm guessing your augers do not. Here is a link to the NILS auger I have.[/#800000]

[#800000]I have the UR600C model. My drill has 725 in/lbs of torque which is enough to handle an 8" if I upgrade later.[/#800000]

Mine is an Ice Kicker II, which is geared down and chain-driven so the auger only turns at half speed, with higher torque. I love it, it works great. It looks like the Clam is direct drive, so I don't know how well that works.

You should be able to fabricate an attachment for your Nils augers. Do a quick web search, and you'll find lots of different designs, which include protection from losing it down the hole. If you don't want to fabricate your own, there are many available for purchase. When I was looking last year, it seems like there were several good options for right around $30.

Sounds like a plan. I will keep that in mind. I first want to see how difficult it is to drill holes, by hand, with my new-to-me 8" Nils auger. I also own the 6" model. My goal is to sell both my 6" Nils auger and my 10" gas-powered Eskimo auger. I want to travel much lighter on the ice from now on.
