I have been feeling sorry for myself since I haven't been able to put my boat in the water for over 6 weeks and knowing I was going to have to put it away for the year. I was feeling bad cause I wanted to try and make a run at BLK in the cat contest. My wife and kids have ostracized me because am "too ornery".
So I was kicked out of the house and I was going to go fishing without the boat "just to show them". It took all of 5 minutes for me to realize fishing is fishing whether your on a boat, float tube, or wading up to your chest in moss and mud. I appreciated the reminder. The best part- I went fishing. 2nd best part- I caught several fish. 3rd best- not one time did I wish I had my boat.
It has been a long time since I have been fly fishing. And I am sure the other bank tanglers were entertained by my personal version of "Dorf on Fly Fishing".
The most unusual thing on the trip was when I was up to my elbows in "moss and mud" untangling the knot end end of my rod. (That's what I spent most of my time doing) I had something hit the back of my calf pretty hard. When I looked into the water see what it was I saw a 21" cookie cutter swimming away from my leg with my white woolybugger in its mouth. I had just pulled out one of wraps around my pole and dropped in the water. I bet if I would have looked down earlier it would have looking at me just like a pet dog waiting for you to drop what's left of your corndog. Unfortunately he got away with it.
I know where I will be next weekend without that "ball and chain" again. Maybe I will see you up there. Waive to me when you drive by in your boat.
