At least we had sunshine!! fished north of the island. 7 of us fished, landed 3 nice ones, 2 cutts, 1 rainbow. getting very light hits at the rate of 3 or 4 an hour. had to be quick with the hook set. ice was at least 12 inches. watch for pockets of slush if your on wheelers.

My friend and I fished Scofield on Saturday (1-17) and we enjoyed the sun as well. We fished straight down the hill from the camp grounds and ranger station at the opening of the bay that heads in to the dam. We fished from 6:30 until noonish and had a fun time. I landed 15 fish, the biggest being almost three pounds. My friend landed eight or nine, the biggest being three pounds.
Early in the morning the fish were hitting hard and deep on a green and pink glow in the dark rat finkie. Later on when they slowed down I put on a 1 inch Berkley power nymph on a fluorescent green jig head and that started the bigger fish biting. When I had this on I was getting bites and my friend was not. I gave him one and before his hit the bottom he brought up a two pounder.
I am going to try to attach some pictures so we'll see how well they work.

Thanks to Gots2fish and Fishluvr for the schofield reports. In the spring I fish over by the island, but in the winter, I'm usually straight across the bay opening from where Fishluvr was. I fish off the point across from there in 12-20 feet of water and have almost always had unreal success. I know there were plenty of days we stopped fishing to let our hands warm up from removing fish. Sounds like the size is increasing and the numbers are going down slightly. My girlfriend wants to do more fishing with me and I was thinking about Schofield. I might just have to get her over there and see if it is still as good as it was 5-6 years ago.
I had noticed in years past that the fish seem to be schooled up and swim in a circular pattern. No bites for 30-40 minutes, and them every pole in the camp slams 2 or 3 fish, then nothing again. Does this still happen?

We had the fish coming in schools at times and then at other times it was just one bite at a time. For us the big difference was the jigs we had on. We could tell a difference when the fish were there. Some jigs caught only bigger fish and some only caught little fish. I still don't know why but the fish I took home and cleaned still had little baby crawfish in their stomachs so I am still going to use the 1 inch nymph.

Here is the jig and rig I was using. The picture that is not real clear is showing my nymph jig and the loop I use to put on a treble hook for power bait. I am going to try to put on a single hook instead of a treble hook so I can catch and release easier when I want to. At Scofield I didn't use the powerbait so I don't know how well it will work this year. Last year it did good. I did use this same rig at Strawberry on Monday and it worked great, even for releasing the fish in the slot. I was worried about the knots breaking because of line stress but I have had fish take my drag and my knots have yet to break. I hope the pictures work and answer the questions I was getting.
