With new owners of BFT came a few questions about the BFT Home page, I do not know the exact reason why most of you don't use it but we are hoping you will all vote in this poll, so we will have a better understanding of your reasoning. If the options listed do not cover your reason, please feel free to reply to this post explaning your reason for not visiting BFT's Home page, thanks. Here is a link to that page:

I check the kayak fishing section of the main page once in a while to see if there have been any new posts. It's rare that there are any. The tube and toon section gets more attention, which I find disappointing given the huge increase in kayak fishing.

Curt, For me its more of a local interest thing. I look at the home page occasionally but usually I am interested in only whats going on locally.

Navigation to the Utah general forum from the home page is a pita, esp on the phone. I'll quit visiting multiple times a day if I have to go through that process every time. I'm here for the forum, not anything offered in the home page.

Hold on there Charina, no one said anything about any member having to go through the home page to get to the Utah board. The owner was simply curious why it wasn't being used more, thats all. I figured this was the best way to see the reasons members have for using it or not using it. Thanks for your response, every comment is important.

Clearly the owners want traffic on the home page, else they wouldn't be asking. I am well aware nothing was said, but I'm also making my preference clear that any such attempt to drive traffic through the home page is going to have at least some negative impact. I'd hate to see anything of the sort.
I looked at the home page. Just like I remember. More ads than anything of substance or use to a Utah fisherman. Not well laid out for readability, overly busy, very little to draw a weekend UT fisherman there. The UT forums are the active ones because a critical mass was achieved in the past to perpetuate it (thanks to a few key players it appears). It certainly isn't active because of snippets and features on the home page, or because of the ads.

I am only interested in the Utah forum pages about 95% of the time. I honestly find the BFT homepage very disorganized and cumbersome when I do occasionally go to the homepage. And, yes, it is a pain to navigate to the Utah page from the main homepage. Finally, with most web browsers, I simply bookmark the Utah page.

I agree with BLFG ( not to be
with GLBT). I have no use for other pages -- I visit BFT only to view the Utah forum pages. That's it.
I hate all the advertisements that come along with BFT. I find the overall layout of the entire site to be too "busy" and very disorganized. that's just me.

Whoa there, Nellie. I'd never seen the page in WH's link before. What I thought was the home page was the one I get when I click on "Main" in the bar above. So there's a Home and a Main - which is quite confusing.
If they'd label the Main page as Home, and delete the useless thing now called Home, it would be great.
Edit to add this: I first found BFT because I was searching for a place to buy lures and tackle. Imagine my surprise to find none nada zip zero for sale here. Even the "Win Free Tackle" link is a gross misnomer.

I'll just repeat what others have said. The home page is an unreadable mess, and I've only been to it a handful of times. All of my bookmarks go straight to the Utah board.

[#0000FF]Would you believe I have never looked at the home page...until I clicked on the link. I've been around over 12 years and never visited that page.
I have consulted the "Main" index a few times...but only to get access to a specific forum.
I now have 3 desktop shortcuts on my screen for BFT...the Utah forums, the Float Tube board (duh) and Messages. I rarely go anywhere else. Sometimes to California or Arizona...or Idaho. That's about it.
I gotta admit I side with those who find the home page far too busy and confusing. More likely to scare folks away than keep them coming back for more. No suggestions for improvement. Just my observations.

I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to click several clicks to get to their frequented "favorite" BFT Web page. I watch the Utah Fishing General Forum MUCH more than any other BFT Web page. A few years back, Internet Explorer introduced a concept called "Favorites". You simply make the page you want to visit the most be a "Favorite" and walla, from then on all ya gots ta do is click that there Favorite ... BOOM! ... no more extra clicken and clacken to get ta where ya want to go.
Yeall thank me later for that tidbit.
