I love fish tacos, but have struggled to catch sufficient size/numbers of fish this time of year. The fish I'm targeting are perch, bluegill, bass, crappie, walleye or catfish. I haven't yet had a trout from a Utah lake that didn't have white, poor tasting meat, so I usually just catch them for fun.

I have a pontoon boat, but as much of my available is only about a 1 or 2 hour window before sunset in the evening. I don't have time to mess around with it so I am stuck on the shore. It also limits what locations I can get to.

I have been to Hyrum a couple times recently, but only caught a few small planter bows.

Anyone have any advice on how to catch some fish taco fish this time of year and where I should focus my efforts?

Welcome to the site.
Your eating the wrong trout if they're white unless they're like high mt. Brookies. Most if not all the planter fish no matter where they are planted take a year or two and most will pink right up. Examples are East Canyon, Lost Creek or of course Strawberry. They have to be in a water body that has some sort of crustations to eat like crawdads, snails or zooplankton.
So Hyum too should be the same story, plus there is perch in there as well.
Mantua has bass, bluegill and perch plus some big fat pink bows that are worthy table fare.... Bank tangling is usually a go to spot for lots of families to get the grandkids on fish with bobbers. Just be ware of Barney, and follow all signs and regulations. Mantua is ruled by the letter of the law.

Starting the week after thanksgiving and for a couple of weeks after that, come over here to bear lake and catch the spawning whitefish. They are very mild, white, flakey meat just like perch and the other mild panfish. They are nothing like the whitefish that you catch in the streams.

Well to be honest I haven't taken a trout home for dinner for awhile, and maybe the ones that I have were just too recently stocked. I'll try taking home a larger on from Hyrum next time I catch one.

I'll have to give that a try. Any advice on where to go or what to use? I've never fished Bear Lake before with the exception of catching some carp with a fly rod while swimming on the beach. If you would prefer not to say, no worries. I understand completely

People are good about posting on here about the whitefish run at Bear Lake. Just keep watching for posts about it starting in the next week or two.

[#0000FF]I have been collaborating with BearLakeFishGuy to complete a PDF writeup on Bonneville Whitefish. I will be posting it for everybody next week. It will contain a map of Bear Lake with the best spots for whitefish. It will also contain tips on tackle, lures, baits and fishing techniques...with lots of fish porn.

Bear Lake is a beautiful lake full of beautiful fish. The Bonneville whitefish get up to more than 4 pounds, they fight well and are great eating...or smoked. They are closely related to trout and have similar flesh and bony structure. But because they have large scales a lot of troutaholics lump them in with chubs or suckers. Big mistake.

Will probably post up by tomorrow. PS...guys fishing for spawning whitefish also catch cutts, bows and macks...and carp and suckers.
