[green] Ok guys and gals here it is, as I said earlier I was going to fish lake for the first time ever, I got alot of good and helpful hints from everyone and I tried them all with great success. My kids and I got there at 3 pm Friday, because you cant check into the lodge until 3, after unpacking we ran down to the lake which was right in our back yard. We drilled some holes and decided to start out fishing for some perch, well we caught a few but we had small splake and bows chasing the perch around and getting in the way of our jigs so at dark we went back to the cabin. The next morning we went back out armed with our perch meat, we drilled several holes in the 45-70ft range, we used glow bugs, rat-finkies, 1/32 oz jigs, ice flies, all with a swedish pimple about 12 inches from the jig, well my 10 year old son grabbed my buzz stick, which I might add I bought on a wim and havent even gotten a bite on and I refused to use, the buzz stick had a jig on it, dont remember the name, it was orange and red with three beads on it and there was no attractor on it. well in about 20 minutes my son had 7 splake ranging from 14 to 17 inches on the ice, he would put it down about 20 feet and hit the buzz button a couple of times, and then sweep it up a few times, and on the drop he would have one. so I put the flasher in his hole and watched what was going on, when he hit the buzz the fish would come in but not hit, then he would sweep it and they would pick it up, so we all tried the sweep with no sucess, and he kept slamming them, so we even tried to bribe him to give us the pole, (he wouldnt fall for it), so I tied on a red colored jig and really watched my vexilar, well the bows and the splake liked the jig to have alot of action, so I would pound my jig get them to come look see, then sweep the rod upwards and then let it fall naturally, every time you would sweep it they would chase it then take it on the fall, so you really had to watch your line if you were not using a vexilar, if you had the sensitivity set right on your flasher you could actually watch them take the lure, then set the hook without feeling the bite, so after explaining that to everyone we all started to get some fish on the ice, on sunday morning we went again for about two hours (before check out,) well my son caught about 16 bows and splake and I caught 19, I tried for several hours on saturday and sunday in deeper water to catch a Laker but with no success, I did have a couple of look sees and a couple of hits but just couldnt stick em. But the bows and the splake wore us out, it was a great weekend. ooh yeah it really didnt matter what bait you tipped your jig with, Perch meat, Meal worms, Night crawlers, or wax worms, as long as you used a jig head with red or bright orange on it, and you pounded your jig and sweapt it with a pause after the sweep you would get hits. but the hit was so slight you really had to pay attention to your wire strike indicator. or your flasher. we never did get back to the perch, we were having too much fun with the bigger fish. If you get a chance rent a cabin at the Fish Lake Lodge, you wont be disappointed they are awesome well kept and you really feel like your at home, none of us wanted to leave. And we are already planning our next trip.
