My SIL is in for the holiday and we decided to try the bass on the river, we arrived about 9:00 a/m and headed down stream just above the Golf and Country club, the current was rolling really fast, I was on the trolling motor and as we approached the boat dock I miss judged the current and clipped the dock and went swimming instantly. With David's help I was able to get up the rear of the boat, breathless and still wondering what had just happened.
Thankfully I had just removed my goose down jacket which I had on over my life jacket. I instantly stripped down (butt naked) and got into an old rain suit I had on board and made it back to the truck and headed home for a change of warm clothes.
Over a burger we talked about some things we needed to change!
I am not a newcomer to fishing, I have been running boats up and down these lakes and rivers for 50 years without falling in the brink.
Rule # 1 KEEP your life vest on all the time while on that river, you may be hearing about my drowning had I not had it on! #2 I will from now on have a bag with jeans, socks hoodie and an old pair of shoes plus an old bath towel.
It can happen to anyone!
Be safe
Randy Headrick
