A couple of friends and myself fished East Portal Bay Sunday (1/18). –24 degrees coming over Daniels Summit and –16 in the parking lot. We got on the ice (16in thick) about 7:45, fishing in about 10 ft of water, and immediately started getting bites. The bite lasted about 30 min and in that time I landed 5 fish, the biggest being a 23 ¼” Cut. One of my friends pulled in 3 fish, and another landed 2 (one was a 22 ½” Cut) and had 1 to the hole that would have easily dwarfed my big fish. Just about anything in white was working, tipped with a meal worm or a nightcrawler. After that the bite slowed down to about 1 fish ea. every 45 min. We left @ 2:30 with myself landing 13 or 14 fish, 1 buddy landing 9 and another with 5 fish, all of which will be there for us to catch another time. On a side note: DON'T forget the sunscreen!
