Not so hot! a friend oan I fished the upper west side away from the big crowds and we caught fish early on but the fish just went inactive. I've never seen fish shut off so fast. We got several small rainbows, 10-15", and a total of 17 perch, non bigger than 9".
talked to Matador on the radio and he said it wasn't so great further down the res either. Didn't see anyone doing any better than we did and lots with less fish.

We(two of us) fished in front of the boat ramp, just to the north a little. Ice was at least 12 inches thick. We tried 3 depths, 26 ft, 33 ft, 48 ft. We did best at 48 ft. We started at 8:00am and fished until about 4:30pm. Between 2 of us we kept about 30 perch and 3 trout. I also let several perch go.
The trout went from about 9 inches to about 12. I let my first trout go thinking it was a runt because I had heard reports of bigger trout. We caught one trout at a depth of 15 feet and the rest on the bottom, including two down at 48 feet.
The bite came and went. It was definitely slower in the afternoon but we had at least a little action all day long. We used several jigs but white seemed best tipped with perch meat. A chunk of worm on a jig also worked. Moving the bait often to get their attention seemed to improve the action.
All in all, a good day.
As was mentioned, I briefly talked to fishnate on the radio. I did not hear any other BFTers.

Thanks for the report and welcome to the BFT boards. I have been to Jordanelle in the past few weeks, and done ok on the rainbows. I am on a trout targeting trip this evening. Any advice on the trout at jordanelle????

We fished Jordanelle yesterday(mon). Finally got into trout on the south side about 300 yards west of the road/ramp(by DKSRenegade and Slayerace). Got into more trout about 400 yards west of the ramp and more towards the middle. Drilled a hole and saw trout suspended. Pulled out 5 trout in 20 minutes. Not great size(12-14), but fun to catch. So head further west. My son caught an 11 inch perch, two 9-10's and quite a few 8 inchers. I like the mixed bag in Jordanelle. Perch to keep you awake and trout to keep you interested. Was checked by the camp cop in the morning, and the DWR officers coming off the ice in the afternoon.(20+ trout on the day and counting perch just got in the way)
Rockport by the dam. I went down to try there after the party on Saturday, but there was no where to park so we drove down to echo and caught perch till we got tired. I really want to try by the dam, so maybe this weekend. It's newer ice and the fish should be more active down on that end.
Let us know what you find this afternoon!

I have wanted to venture as far west as i could go, but since it seems i am doing this trip solo, i am afraid of finding that thin ice!!! I fished on 1-10 with WH2 and fished 15 feet off the south bank and about 450 yards away from the road, and seen alot of suspended fish coming across with few hits.

Well we caught about 20 trout and a bunch of perch...we had the most luck with pink ratfinks tipped with a meal worms...We were on the south shore. The trout were both suspended and on the bottom...There were some rather small perch but it seemed the further out we went the bigger they got. We did have to move around to find the trout...It was a good day good to get our hands on some trout and just enough perch to keep it exciting! My little brother had his Vexilar and seemed to do MUCH better than I did! he could find the suspended trout really well! If you can find them they bite hard! Good luck to ya! [cool]

Thanks Amber that helps, I'd like to hit it again and keep away from people this time. About how far out were you, and how deep was the water? South shore, huh, about how far from the dam.

Sounds like you did much better through the day. We got there at 7 AM and quit at noon. We tried several different depths too but just couldn't interest them much. We caught our trout from the bottom to about 5' down. We tried 17' to 30'.
Polo - for what it's worth, we stopped and scoped out the dam crowd and only counted three fish on the ice between about 15 people.

with the recent attraction of rockport i wouldnt be surprised if that reservoir has seen its fair share of lures and holes for the year. its been fished out is my guess.

I agree, Rockport has been worked over pretty hard. It fished real consistent last year. It was better last March than it is right now. Froze later last year though. I might go back and fish the secluded spots, but it has seen some preassure this year. Still has too many perch. Last year we had 70+ trout days with less than 20 perch days. Seems to have reversed this year.

My friend and I figure that many of those that would normally have gone to Pineview for perch are now going to Rockport and Echo. We were like the third or fourth party on the ice at 7:00 AM and by 7:30 there were lots of drillers. When we left at noon there were about 300+ on the lake.
