Haven't been too many ice fishing reports so I thought I'd at least post some photos of this years ice fishing (Dec. 5) to get y'all revved up for the ice fishing yet to come. No report here since it was private water, but it was fun! Lots of ice developing out there.

Nice Nate. Any reports on ice conditions and catching at Pelican?

They are fishing the hard deck on Pelican. 4 or 5 groups on Sunday and Monday. Do not know if they were catching anything.

Pelican has at least 6" of ice as of last weekend and reports are spotty, with some catching mostly bass while others are limiting on bluegill. One note of caution, they are filling the reservoir and there is some slush and soft edge ice. We also got a fair bit of snow today so that may have pushed the cap down making for slushy conditions generally. Temps are expected to drop to single digits in the next few days so it may solidify things somewhat.

My son and I fished Pelican on Monday and we did very good. We ended up catching 7 LMB and 40+ Gills. The ice is a good 7 inches, so we decided to venture out on the ice with the snowmobile so we could be more mobile...good thing we did because we needed to move around a bit and drill at least 20 holes before we landed on an area that consistently held fish. The Gills were pretty aggressive and had better size to them then last year and so did the LMB. We had to target the LMB with different bait then the Gills in order to catch them. Overall, it was a great day.
Talking to some other folks out there indicated little success, but they weren't drilling very many holes as far as we could see.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing. My first ice trip should be this coming Monday.

Glad you guys had some good success out there. I think it's going to be a hit or miss year again where you have to do some searching in many cases to find the fish. Nice to hear you found some better quality too.
