Wanted to hit the open water, so we headed to Powell for two days.. But two days are not enough time, we had more work to do and appointments at bad times..

The first day we got to the water at 9:00am and headed up lake out of BullFrog we ran up to Whites (I think that is the name) and went to the back till we found 35' of depth..
We had spoons on for lures and worked our way back to 10' depth and only got two Stripers one about 12' and the other at 8'..
We headed for Hanson's but no fish, then we went to Mokie and went all the way back to 40' and got a waleye on the first drop with the spoon we fished our way back to the 20' depth and in one and a half hours we boated 5 eyes and 13 Stripers..

The next day we only had two and a half hours to fish so we head back to Mokie but we started in 60' of water and got a 4.4lb eye right off and bigger Stripers as well..

All the fish came on one type and color of lure, we then started to hit each mouth of the side canyons on the way out and found lots of shad and other fish feeding on them.. With only two an half hours of fishing time before our meeting we ran out of time..

We ended our fishing day with four eyes and 52 Stripers the Stripers was from 8.9lb and down..Will post some pictures and take one of the lure as well and post it later..
The temps was in the 40's and great sun and no wind..

Nice Cliff. I agree it takes more than 2 days to fish Powell.

This is a great time to fish Powell as you have the hole lake to yourself and most of the fish are at the same depth and spots in the canyons all over the lake..

No water skiers just lots of great fishing..

You can use bait, but I like lures as long as you find what works as they can be very picky this time of year..
I will go out and take a picture of the lure and make color so any one that wants to know can see just what it is..

This lure I have used it for salt water, then I tried it for fresh water and found it to work great for both..

As you can see by the bigger one in the package the only place that I get them from is Fish Tech, no one else carers them that I know of..The size I use is 3/4 or 1 oz for the Powell I use the bigger ones for the salt water..

As I recall from my saltwater catalogs, bass pro I believe carries them and cabelas. So they would have to be purchased online if only one place locally carries them. Thanks for sharing Cliff. They look like a great spoon.

Thanks for all that info Cliff, I think I'll start right now to plan a trip down there for next month. I love Powell in the winter. I generally use spoons that look similar to that, but I'll see if I can find some of those too. I hope the fish cleaning station is open.
