Great Pic! That fish must have eaten all the panfish in Mantua, as I've been out on the ice 3 times in the past 3 weeks with zero 'gills or perch caught by me or friends, where we've done great the last 3 seasons on ice..Yes, we've gotten a few trout (the whole So. side of the knoll) but no panfish on electronics or the hook..I know the lake was poisoned for weed control this past Fall...maybe every hole we drilled (50 - 60 for 3 trips) had dead vegetation, I don't know...but we sure couldn't find them...Anyone out here get into any panfish at Mantua this season? Do we have to be North of the Knoll area? tks for info...

I had herd about the poisoning also but didn't know if it was true or not we went up this Saturday & didn't have a bite so must be true won't be back again this year. Thanks for the info!

I hope somebody can positively confirm or deny the weed-kill rumor from an official source, not just internet "I heard..." tales.

Your boy has already caught more quality fish than I have. I still need to get some lessons from him. HAHA

No information here on the weed kill but I can say there are still plenty of healthy perch and bluegills in there. Was in the northeast bay Saturday morning and caught / seen caught quite a few. I will say they aren't in the usual locations and are pretty tight lipped and lite on the bite (maybe a result of the weed kill if it's true?). Had to walk a lot and punch a lot of holes to find them but the quality is worth it.

In my opinion something has changed on Mantua since first ice. The first two weekends we slammed the perch pretty good....the following weekend the same holes revealed the water had turned a brunt brown color. We moved enough to find better water clarity, however have never been able to locate actively feeding perch again....just a few here and there.

Haven't heard of any good reports sense the first couple week of ice.

I have been drilling and searching all over the lake from 6' of water to 17'. I must have drilled at least 50 holes last week. I'm not seeing many fish on my showdown and not catching many either. The few fish I have caught are healthy, but they are few and far between.

tks for info..I'd rather not give up on Mantua this season, so may have to try the Northern section, as oxygen levels may be better there..tks also to dwayneb, Hook n Cook, and Sirfilletalot for replies..I know it can take a lot of drilling, and that's why I got my '' " brand conversion plate with 20v heavy duty " " brand battery powered drill..Can't be beat..battery powered drills are the way to go when you have to drill 20 + holes per day at Mantua, or anywhere else..I'll try again..
