Been to the berry many times but have never targeted Kokanee. Thought I'd give it a try tomorrow. Any info would help. Any side of the lake better for Kokanee? Or just deeper? Don't wanna know anyone's spots just lookin for an area to get away from the crowds and find my own spot.
Welcome to the site Dfack919. You are going to be hard pressed to catch kokanee at the Berry while ice fishing, its all about being in the right place at the right time, so you have to be lucky to do that, IMO. It's not impossible but I think those that have caught them there, would have a hard time doing it every time. That being said, try the same place where you have caught them in the Summer while trolling, assuming you have. Other than that, if no one wants to share that info, go back a few pages and read what members have said that have caught them. Last, read some old post from last Summer, use the search function above and the member liketrolling, he showed screen shots of the locations he was fishing. Hope this helps and let us know how you do.

Thanks for the info WH2! That definitely helps and hopefully we can just hook into one koke. We are gonna try a little deeper then move in closer if we can't find any fish on the finder. Some nice cutts and bows are welcome also but one Koke is all we need for this trip. Updates will come on how it goes when we get back. Hopefully with a pic or two of some nice fish!

I went to Strawberry last year with my years goal to catch Kokanee through the ice. I caught 2 on the Soldier Creek side in 60 feet of water. Both showed up in my Marcum LX-6 as single lines so I thought they were Cutthroats. They were also suspended in the water column 20' off the bottom. One took a green Ratfinkee and the other took a white paddle bug (both tipped with a wax worm). After catching my second one my entire screen from 20'-60' lit up with fish. I knew a huge school had just swam by.

The Kok's are there you just have to be patient, you need a sonar to see where they're suspended, more patience and being in the right place at the right time. There's a few good YouTube videos out there about ice fishing for salmon. In-depth Outdoors has a great episode where they use rattle spoons to catch salmon through the ice.

Good luck chasing Kok's. It's possible you just have to get out there and try. Hope you catch some. See you on the ice.

We weren't entirely sure where to go today. We were just experimented in 40 fow between the ladders and soldier creek. Hooked up at 32 feet and lost it just before the hole so we weren't sure if it was a koke or not. But other than that not much on the fish finder. Sounds like soldier creek has been a little better spot for kokes but I'm not too familiar with that part of the lake so we didn't venture over there. Skunked today but the weather was so nice that it was just good to get out there.
