Fished Strawberry on 1-9-16. Fished in 12 FOW and found success with a white paddle bug and a pink ratfinkee. The rainbow measured just under 19 inches. Sorry for the picture overload.

Can I ask where you were? My friends and I went up to Strawberry yesterday and fished just in front of marina where ramp is in the summer. I still think we were too far out, we are going up on Thursday and I'm thinking Chicken Creek. I'm new to ice fishing this year, bought all the gear except a fish finder, but know all the good spots on the lake from summer fishing on my boat. I'm hearing different reports on what to use and what depth. Do you find that the fish are just below the ice in the am and go deeper as the day progresses? I see some people kill it, while others including myself don't. Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Personally I've found that about 10-15 FOW is about right and I'm dropping to the bottom and coming up 1-2 turns on my reel. I've been using craw fish smelly jelly and I don't know if that has helped or not because we've caught some with and without. This last trip the fish we caught early were in about 6-7 FOW and then later we caught fish right off the bottom at 11 FOW. Hope that helps. My go to lure is a white paddle bug

I've heard white tube jigs tend to do well. Is there a specific color of leadhead you can recommend? Or a specific size of leadhead or size of tube?

My dad has a lucky white tube with a plain lead head jig. I mean no color at all because it was something he pulled from the bottom of his tackle box. I have used white and pink jig heads and I think I'm using 1/16 size heads.

hows getting on and off the ice? Can you get a ATV out on it?

I saw 4-wheelers at the main marina getting on the ice. I'm not sure about other places.
