Took a day drive to Bear yesterday. Garden City state park is launch at your own risk. An ice free path has a bridge of ice out a little ways from ramp. When entering lake from marina inlet a broken ice field extends out 60'+. As I drove to Cisco area the south end of lake was capped. As I got to 1st point launch it was another launch at your own risk again but not as heavy as it was on west side. Broken ice field extends out from ramp about 20'+. Continued on to south end of Cisco Beach, open water at ramp with no ice, there was a vehicle with boat trailer parked, vehicle had chains on for procautionary safety, north Cisco Beach ramp closed. Rainbow launch open, no ice field. Parking areas have been cleared at Cisco & Rainbow. Most ice observed was on west & south shores but conditions can rapidly change. East shore looks good but stay aware of ice sheets or chunks that may be present. [fishon]

WOW, that's really amazing for a freeze to happen so fast on such a large body of water. Those are some really good pics of today. These were yesterday afternoons pics I took with my phone. I'm almost convinced that I'm a liar. LOL [crazy] [:/]

Bear lake conditions can change fast. I've seen it go from almost frozen and capped to 10ft piles of ice on the banks and boat friendly overnight. I had plans on going tomorrow but I'm gonna have to do an icefishing trip somewhere instead.... Hell if the wind comes up tonight it'll be open water again......

It could be wide open by the weekend ya just never can tell with bear lake.

That's true, but it's got single digit temperatures all night tonight. That should cap the lake and start the ice process. If the lake will get capped and 2-3 inches of ice the wind won't matter anymore. It's gonna be a great year I think!
