I saw on face book a fella lost his side by side threw the ice just wondering if they are ok, and where it was. I want to take my kids Monday and have a snowmobile and don't want to run into the same problems.

I saw they all made it out ok and got the machine out. There are some warm springs south of Haws point towards Rennegade where the old dike used to be. It's soft there every year and where there is 10" every bear there is only a few inches there. I took my wheelers out two weeks ago on soldier creek side and it was its fine near the cabins but south of there it was a little thin for machines.

Hah, yep...the "Big Hole" area. Was wondering why people don't go through there more often, actually. The Fish-N-Maps map for the Strawberry has some good info on springs in the reservoir, by the way. It might be a good thing to pick up before driving on the ice there.

Thank you I have a fishing map of strawberry I'll have to study it. Can I just go strait out from the marina to the narrows safely

There are usually a couple bid pressure ridges between the marina and the narrows, sometimes there is as much as 4' of water between ice sheet, agai. The pressure ridges are as dangerous as the springs, except you an usually spot the pressure ridges, unlike the springs. When I've gone to the narrows I've gone from the ladders south, not sure how much further that is but I felt safe doing that. Others may chime in that have done it more frequently that I have.
