I saw an earlier post from Rocky Raab saying the ice was sketchy at Mantua. Can anybody else confirm this? Also, Any recent reports... Good or bad? We're thinking about going today. Thanks in advance.

Even I can't confirm it, to be honest.

As I reported earlier, when I arrived, there was a guy leaving. He said he thought the ice was unsafe. He described it as being like "snow cone ice" that sagged under his weight. Hearing that, I didn't venture out on it.

I saw only one group fishing it later that day, over by the mound. Nobody else anywhere.

Thanks Rocky. This place seems shrouded in mystery all of a sudden. So we are going where we know it is safe today.

Brigham City's historical data has been a little spotty and it's a little lower elevation but it's pretty close to Mantua's weather. That weather has not been good for ice for the last few days.

I would be willing to bet that any lakes below about 7000 elevation besides Strawberry and Scofield have several feet of slush around them. Today is going to be below freezing almost all day but the barometer is rising as it gets warmer into tomorrow and then Saturday is a scary day for ice because it will be above freezing for at least 6 hours around all the mid-elevation lakes.

with so many other options I wouldn't bother with Mantua even if it was safe.Check other reports of people who have had success and go there.
