Took the kids to Scofield. We brought their cousins since they had never been ice fishing before. We ended up catching over 60 fish, mostly chubs and a few skinny cuts and even one small tiger. If anyone doesn't mind catching chubs and wants to get some kids into some fish, Scofield is the perfect spot to go. Its really easy to do, just use very small ice flies tipped with any kind worm. Lower the ice fly down the hole so it is just off the bottom and wait. We had action most of the day with only a few slow stretches and the kids had a great time. Happy Fishing!

Way to get the kids out fishing and sharing your report. You can tell that they had a good time and they helped thin the herd.[laugh]
Most everyone that has reported on Scofield the past year or so has had similar results.

Taking scouts up Saturday. Where would you recommend I take them for some fast chub action?

I would take them to the skinny arm of water by the dam. On the other side of the lake by the boat ramp is also a good spot. If you fish next to the shore you will most likely catch more small trout. I have had the best luck keeping the kids busy with chubs in the middle of the arm in about 18 FOW. Don't be afraid of moving around a bit. You will catch most of the chubs just off the bottom. If you have a fish finder and mark fish higher in the water column they are usually trout. When I see fish come in higher I usually reel up quickly and catch a trout.
I'd love to hear how you do on Saturday so be sure to reply to this post with pictures. Good luck!

There is much debate about how the lake is being managed and what to do about the chubs... but I don't think kids really care whether they are catching trout or chubs.... It would be hard have that kind of quick action fishing for anything else in my opinion.
