Did anyone catch? We went to Buckboard after failing to get to Firehole and I am pretty sure we took a route that no one takes during the winter... Stuck in Wyoming in the mountains 3 times for over 3 hours. Lucky we had five able body people. Misery.
After getting the truck out, we turned around and made it to beautiful Buckboard marina and were told it was a guarantee good day... well it wasn't. Took all the advice I could get and applied it to the day and in the end not a thing.
Was worth the trip though, great story and beautiful scenery.
Did anyone else go up? Any luck?

We fished Friday night and between three of us we caught 10 burbot. We talked to several other groups on the ice and between all of them they only had one fish.

My group fished the gorge friday and Saturday with both day's of success. We caught more 22 to 25 inch macks than anything else. We fished out deep just south of buckboard. The Bite for us was best around 11. If you don't mark fish after 10 min or so, then keep moving around. The rainbow bite was really slow. Tube jigs tipped with sucker meat and jigging spoons were the hot items. We only fished during the day. It was tent city due to the burbot bash going on. I've never seen so many people ice fishing the gorge. I remembered why I don't fish the weekends very often.

Was up there this weekend as well. First time fishing for burbot and first time north of buckboard. We only managed to catch a handful..3 the first night at brinegars crossing and 2 the second night at lost dog. Had a few more on that we lost before getting up the hole. Ice was 9" at brinegars and 17" at lost dog.

We had similar success. Fished Friday night near points off the main channel just north of Buckboard and managed just four burbot. The second night we fished a couple turns up the Blacks Fork from confluence and managed a little better numbers. Tons of ice up there (24"+).
Best fishing for burbot seemed to be between 8-11 PM.
We also spent over 3 hours trying to get our trucks and 4 wheeler trailers up the hill to the main road on the second night. What a mess... That fresh snow on those hard packed two-tracks made for a nightmare situation.
Our team total for the Bash was 19 burbot, 12 macks and 2 rainbows - no tags and no prizes.
I think that's my last Burbot Bash.

Ken...we were the guys in the 2 jeep grand Cherokees behind you when you got stuck on county road 11. Thanks for helping us with our trailer and making sure we got out of there ok...that was a mess! To everyone fishing the buckboard classic...stay away from that road if your towing any kind of trailer.

6 ofor us fished Thursday Friday Saturday night. We pulled in 102 burbut,12 lake trout four rainbows. Most off of road 6. Three of us finished as a team and probably got 70 of those 102 and most of the lake trout and rainbow. Largest burbot was a 27 inch. We stayed away from the crowds didn't enter the tournament but had a lot of fun.

We went up on FR 173... bad idea. What is the best way to Firehole?
If we go back it will have to be late night fishing.

I'm assuming that you are coming from Utah. Staying on I-80 east until you see the exit for sr 191. this will be just before you get to Rock Springs. Take 191 south ,continue on for about 10-15 miles. then you will see a big sign that says firehole, it will be a right hand turn Stay on this road until you reach firehole campground, then you have arrived. Buy a good map,its cheap and a invaluable source of info.
