Finally had a good day at Rockport this year. Sure have had my share of slow ones. I guess I had finally paid my dues. The snow and slush are pretty bad right now. Made it hard to get around on the atv. Still beat trying to pull a sled on that wet mess. My brother didn't have waterproof boots, so we kept to the areas that didn't have much slush. We found a couple of spots out in the middle, but only managed a couple of bites. The last spot we tried was in close, in only 7 feet of water. I was using a red, speckled paddle bug. After a bit of nothing, I began thinking it was just going to be more of the same. Out of boredom more than anything, I started jigging very aggressively. Aggressive to the point that if you saw someone doing it, you would think it would never work. But, my flasher lit up. I paused thinking that I was going so fast that I had created all the lines myself. I would wait for the lines to clear. But, they stayed. I gave a little jiggle and bam, fish on. This repeated itself over the course of the next 2 hours. VERY aggressive jigging at 5 feet, pause when the fish showed, small jiggle, bam. It was consistent, as fast as I could catch, unhook, release. Figure I caught around 18 in those couple of hours. Lost track around 13. Fun day for sure.
