So I know everyone is excited about ice fishing now, but this time of year is also a great time to make plans for the big fishing trips of the year. I was curious what some of you are doing this year for big trips? I have a deep back country trip to the Wind Rivers in the planning stages for this summer that I am really looking forward to... Last time we hit this area I had an incredible trip, see attached photos... Years back I had an incredible Alaska trip that I'll always remember, and then there is the steelhead trip to Idaho that caused my addiction to fishing.... It seems like these event type trips make memories for a lifetime, it's those trips that you plan and fuss about that seems to be so fun to look back on... What are your thoughts? Anyone dreaming of Cascade after seeing the fun that the crew had a few weeks ago? Those combo snowmobile/fishing trips sure look fun to me.... Anyway let me know what you do, always love new ideas to start dreaming of... Thanks J

I'm treating our extended family to a houseboat week at Powell. I guarantee that the grandkids and I will be fishing.

I've always wanted to try that, hope you have a great trip Rocky... J

So I've been getting a lot of PM's about ideas for trips, so if you don't want to share them on the general open post, I'd love to hear them on the PM's as well... Thanks J

I miss Lake Powell fishing days off the house boat! Some of my best memories as a kid.

I usually go to Lake Fork, TX in the spring but this year I'm getting a new 225 Pro XS on the boat. She is actually getting rigged up in California as I type this. I'm going to stop at Mead on my way back. Instead of a big trip I plan on mapping Starvation and staying at my trailer.

Heading out to my favorite "secret" lake in May to hopefully beat my personal best brown that I caught in August of 2015. I know there's some real monsters in there, but getting them to bite has been tricky so far.

Also got a family trip planned down to Powell the first week of September. Every fall when I was younger, we would make this yearly trip down there on a house boat. It's been probably 15 years since the last one, but my grandpa is reviving the tradition this year. I'm very excited.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I had that mapping capability for my graph. I think I bought my finder one generation too soon and I can't justify replacing it so soon. Let us know how that mapping works out at least if it does a good job for you. Thanks J

Nice brown and it sounds like you have a fun year on tap. Powell is on my bucket list, but in just not seeing an opportunity yet. One day I'll know why you guys all like it so much. Thanks for some suggestions. J

Ol' Powell doesn't have to be as complicated as it's usually made it out to be. Me and a few buddies went down a couple years ago with a couple tents and float tubes and had a hell of a time.

I was looking forward to some salt water fishing again this year, but things are up on the air right now with a whole lot of uncertainty.

I don't usually travel far from home, but this year I'm hoping to make it to that Benson marina. I hear its a really cool place to spend some time?

A solo trip to Lake Powell in February for 4 days of striper hunting, when the snow banks in my yard melt enough to get my boat out . Then Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge for stripers, bass, kokes and macs until I'm stinkin' sick of it, with plenty of koke trolling at Strawberry in between. Maybe I'll even luck out and net a couple fish.

Can you get to good fishing without boats? Can get away from the crowded marinas? Guess I ought to look into a small boat trip capability. If you go in the slow season it could be alright if the weather stayed relatively calm. Maybe an early spring trip would be fun. Thanks for the info. J

Hey Kevin, I hope things work out. I keep dreaming of a tuna trip but it hasn't worked out for me yet, but I hope I can figure it out someday. I know of local groups that take their boats from here to Oregon for salmon and tuna and that sounds like so much fun to me, but I'm not close to being able to try something like that yet. Maybe someday!!! Later J

Hey Danny
If you can get away from the farm you ought to go with me to Bear Lake or Porcupine. I know it's not as exotic as the marina but it's probably a close runner up. Not sure I can go this weekend, but next Friday I'm thinking of going. Let me know if you can do it. Later J

Sounds like you must be retired, that sounds like fun to fish until you've had enough of it. I had a day like that once. We were in Alaska on a raft float trip and since the sun came up about 4:00 AM we were on the river fishing from then until about 10:00 PM when the sun went down. We were on a smaller creek that the salmon ran up to spawn so they stacked up in the main river getting ready to run up the steep creek to spawn. I think most of my attached salmon pictures were from that day. We caught five salmon species, rainbows, and grayling that day. Well over a hundred fish each and since they were big fish with lots of current I was so tired that night I actually quit fishing. Then they told us they needed a fish for dinner and my brother and I raced back to the river to see who would catch the last one. Don't remember who did but it was a fun day. Hasn't been often that I've quit fishing if I didn't have to. Anyway I wish you well on your quest. Later J

For me it's a little pier fishing while on a business trip to the Bay Area. Only this year they are talking about changing hotels so not sure how close to the bay I will be.

Mine will be another trip to Alaska with my crew. Always a great time. It is of necessity a "beer budget" trip and for some reason the crew gets bigger every year?? No fancy charters or fly-outs for us but lots of fish and fun.

I could spend the bucks on a really nice trip for myself or a recreational trip with my g-kids -- I'll take the latter every time.

By the way, I've got all my catfish hooks sharpened. [Wink]

I was hoping my annual review would be in Cali for the same reason, but it sounds like it will be in Oklahoma. Oh well it was fun to hope and dream. It's nice when a business trip works out, but not many do for me. Good luck on yours, hope you at least get within taxi range. Later J
