Ok, we’re about half way through this ice fishing season. Sooooo, where have you been, how was it, and where do you still want to go before the ice is gone?

Here’s some of mine.

Where: Schofield – 11/28&29; 12/6&13
How was it: Great, fished east of the island. Great action early in the day. Success slowed in the later weeks. Fished with ice flies and foxy jigs tipped with meal worms mainly on the bottom. Probably going back 2/6&7.

Where: Current Creek - 12/20
How was it: Fast action early. Tapered off during the day. Fish caught throughout the water column. Fished with ice flies tipped with meal worms.

Where: Echo – 12/29,30; 1/17
How was it: Constant fast action for perch with an occasional trout. Fished with ice flies tipped with meal worms, night crawlers, perch meat, perch eyes.

Where: Rockport – 1/1,2,3,10,17
How was it: First couple of weeks it was incredible. Lots of perch with good trout action. Bite tapered off during the day. Crowds and parking have become almost unbearable. Fished with ice flies tipped with meal worms, night crawlers, and perch.

Where: Utah Lake – 11/28; 1/3,10,11,18
How was it: Slow. Not a lot of fish biting. Fished with sonars, ice flies & foxy jigs tipped with meal worms, perch, and perch eyes.

Where: Jordanelle – 1/19
How was it: Fast action for small perch. Few larger perch. Fair action for trout. Fished with ice flies, rat finkies tipped with meal worms and perch eyes.

Where do I want to go????

Wyoming: Fontenelle perhaps Viva Naughton or Sulfur Creek

Utah: Strawberry, Schofield(2/6,7), Fish Lake, Rockport,???

So many places, So few weekends.

How about you guys?

Chester, do you have a job man? Just kidding. I'm jealous of your trips. Great report and holds true to other posts. Some people think that giving out info like this causes the crowds, but I think that it gives me a chance to decide where to go if I want to get away from the crowds. However because of the short time that I have to ice fish [mostly weekends]I am going to Strawberry on Sat. where I think most of Northern Utah will be. One good thing though, it is a big reservoir.I hope I can do as good as you have so far this season. Bust of luck and see ya on the ice. DKSRenegade

I've been to many of the same places that you've listed Rockport, Echo, Jordanelle, Utah Lake with the same success, so I won't reiterate what's already been said to avoid redundancy. Except to say that the Jordanelle perch are not merely small but RECORD tiny. Some of the tiniest perch I've ever caught on hook and line. Now where I want to go but never got the chance: Causey--want to get into some of those splake just for something different, Willard-- want to hook up a few wipers through the ice--haven't done that for a couple years now, Strawberry-- want to get into some giant Bonneville cutts. Also, go try to hike to bird island on Utah lake. Additionally, maybe a trip to a high mountain lake for lakers. I was going to head up north a bit: Hyrum, Mantua, and Pineview. I want to try icing up some largemouth on a few lures at Mantua and Hyrum.
