I'm looking to make a trip to Scofield this weekend. I have fished it a grand total of once in all the years I've lived here. I'm mainly going to get some catfish bait but I'm taking someone who wants to get a trout or three. I know most of the trout are small but that's ok. Has anyone been out lately and if so, would you care to share a little info on where to start? Thanks.

Hi Wagdog,

Start shallow 5-8 FOW and fish with small white jigs to start. Tip them with some of your freshly caught chub meat and hope for the best.

There are quite a few below-the-slot rocket cutts in there.

Four of them might make a meal.

Thanks MasterDaad. Any pointers on locations for parking and maybe where to start fishing? I've heard around the dam can be decent.

I'd give them if I had them but I haven't ice fished up there much.

I would park at the state park by the dam and find a rocky spot away from others to start though.

I haven't fished it in two years because of the chubs but I used to do a lot of ice fishing there. I would park on the main highway directly east from the island. I would then walk out 200-300 yards from shore (I never had much luck by shore). It is 5-10 feet of water depending on the year. I would always do really well for trout and I would use 3.5 inch white tube jigs or small brown jigs. I don't know how many chubs would be in that location but it was always a good area for me in the past.

Thanks dtatty. I appreciate it. I guess I'm setting my expectations. I don't really care about catching too many trout there. My buddy just wants to go and catch something and he has been hounding me to take him. He picked the location which is fine by me. I figured I would make the most of it. However, if we get into some keepers that would be fine as well. Thanks again.

If you go to the area I told you, there is a small parking lot. Just head to the island and you'll see the parking lot off to your right. Sometimes its full but you're fine to just pull off the road and park there. What I would usually do is start a ways from shore and start fishing and I would keep moving towards the island until I got into fish. powerbait works pretty well for the small cuts there

You can also park on the south side of the dam arm where it opens up to the lake. For trout stay shallow 2-7 ft of water (seriously, the biggest fish I have caught out of that lake was in 2.5 FOW) and use big jigs (2-4"). For chubs go out deeper (10+ feet) and use small jigs on the bottom tipped with any kind of worm or grub.
