We spent a good amount of time messing with the slush on Saturday, we finally abandoned the wheeler and made several trips with the snowmobile.

A lot must have changed in a day. We fished until about 2pm on Friday and didn't experience any slush going to or from the marina to Renegade. It was all frozen.

Had some buddies go up sat morning with a wheeler. They made it out towards renegade in the morning just fine but hit a massive slush pocket on the way back to the marina that buried the wheeler up to the racks! Showed me some pics....i couldn't believe what i was seeing. This warm weather isn't going to help so be careful out there!

Yes. I was up Saturday too. The fishing was slow but the entertainment from a group fighting a wheeler in the slush across the way was entertaining.

Fished the SC side today. The temps were 19 degrees when I arrived at 7:30 and 38 degrees when I left at 2:00 p.m. I had no problems going out; however, coming back there were 2 large pockets of slush that were somewhat problematic. It is probably only going to get worse with the warm temps this week until all the snow on the ice melts & refreezes as ice.
Be careful out there!

Gotta ask are you guys using chains on your 4 wheelers or not?

Nope I wasn't! Don't think it would help much, the biggest problem was when you broke through the hard crust snow to the slush and you get high centered!

I have tracks - love them.
However, you get this ATV buried in the slush & you are in a whole lot of trouble. Been there & done it!
You might get around with chains on the SC side - all 4 wheels. The problem you will have is accessing the reservoir. There are some deep snow drifts.

I stand corrected. Looks like you need a Sherman tank to make it through that lol.

We haven't been stuck yet in overflow/slush...been doing some reading on this...1) if machine has reverse use it 2) walk machine out don't sit on it or hook gear up 3) move machine during trip 4) have snobunji/come along 5) if you have to leave machine try and prop up get track out of overflow/slush keeps track from freezing into overflow/slush including starting machine to remove slush...just info we've read on getting stuck and setting out...

All good points!
When I became stuck, my first reaction was that I needed to get off the ice in the shortest distance. I have thought about this decision over & over and I believe it was the wrong one which resulted in having to dig out the ATV so many times. If I were to ever get stuck like this again, I would clean out an area so that I could do as many as an 18 pt turn around and go back out in my old tracks.
This doesn't address the problem of the slush developing during the heat of the day and encounter it on the way back to the parking lot.
I have a winch on the front of the ATV. I was concerned about extending the cable, getting it all iced up & then having a new nuisance to deal with. Certainly did not want to have the wire rope wrapped around my tracks and/or axles. So I did not use it - not sure if this was the right decision or not??
