Can you share where the ice was pulling away from the bank? I want to get out on the ice one last time either Thursday or Friday.

I fished Starvation on Tuesday and we didn't have any trouble getting on or off the ice at the main boat ramp. There was a little bit of a gap to solid ice but we were able to step across the thin ice and shallow water. We did put two boards down to drive my ATV onto the ice. When I came back to the ramp at 4:00 p.m., I just drove off the ice and through about one foot of thin ice and 2" deep water.
If you can find a steeper shoreline where the ice is directly against the bank you should be able to step across any thin or weak ice. If the slope is shallow, you may find a little open water or thin ice. Anyone going in the next few days might want to bring along a 2x6 that is at least 8 feet long just in case.
Now that we are in the late season for ice fishing, everyone should start being extra careful again. Never go out alone and have a throw rope handy in case anyone goes through the ice.
Fishing was pretty good for perch up to 9 inches. We fished in 16 to 19 feet of water in a flat shelf area. Perch eyes were the best bait for me. We didn't try targeting trout but the fishing for rainbows should be good in deeper water. Try fishing in 30 to 40 feet of water and look for the rainbows to be suspended at about 16 to 22 feet.

Mike, was there much water/slush atop the ice?

Thanks for the edge info. I did well last week south of the bridge in 25ft of water. I kept 15 perch from 8-11 inch fish. The finder was loaded with perch the bottom 7 ft of water. Gonna search for the elusive walleye in the morning. Probably last ice trip for me this year.

There was not any water or slush on the surface of the ice except in one area near a crack in the ice. During the day the crack pushed closed and a little water came out on the surface and spread out. It made the ice look unsafe but the water was only about 1/4" deep.
Although the ice surface was free of snow and slush, it wasn't real slick due to the surface texture which was like pebbles. A pair of cleats is still a good idea since anywhere liquid water spills on the ice it does get slick.

I heard there was some open water around the bridge columns. Has anyone drove past Starvation today? I was thinking of going there tomorrow.

I did not find the eyes today. One stary steelhead. Pretty slow day. The edges are getting soft as well as the ice on the lake. The popping and cracking were not sounds of strengthening ice, but ice that is getting weaker. I know where to find the eyes in the near future after ice off. Iced eye will have to come next year.

Thanks or the info Mike... But it's not looking so good for a possible trip out there next week.[
